Compatibility
On occasion, Kingston Technology has heard reported that a representative from a computer system manufacturer
has told a customer (which could be an end user, reseller or integrator) that if the customer uses third party
memory in the system manufacturer’s computer, the system manufacturer’s warranty is voided. Through this ploy,
the sales representative attempts to coerce customers into purchasing memory modules from the system manufacturer,
usually at much higher prices than Kingston Technology charges for the equivalent product. A system manufacturer
may resort to this type of warranty threat to spread fear, uncertainty and doubt in the minds of consumers, rather
than to compete on the basis of quality and price.
Kingston Technology strongly supports customer choice and believes that consumers – whether end user, reseller, or
systems integrator – should be free to purchase compatible memory modules without being subject to threats and
misinformation. Throughout its existence, Kingston Technology has placed extreme importance on reliability. Our
modules are designed to meet the specific requirements of the system or class of systems into which the module will
be installed. Our memory is 100% tested to be reliable and compatible. Further, all Kingston Technology memory modules
are backed by a lifetime warranty and supported by 24-7 free technical support.

Frequently asked questions
Will adding Kingston memory void my system warranty?
Absolutely not! Using compatible components such as Kingston on your system (including servers and workstations)
will not invalidate the system’s warranty. In the same way that you can choose a different manufacture’s hard
drive or monitor, you can choose which manufacturer’s memory products to use. You are under no obligation to use
the OEM (Original System Manufacturer) branded components.
Will adding Kingston memory void my service warranty?
Adding third party components to your system without informing your service provider may cause you unwanted
administrative problems. However, you can add Kingston to your service contract. Unless you are servicing
Kingston’s memory yourself, you should contact your service provider and ask for support of Kingston memory.
How do I add Kingston memory to my service contract?
This is very simple. Contact your service provider and inform them that you want to add Kingston memory as
additional hardware to your service contract.
Can my service provider refuse to add Kingston memory to my contract?
Some service providers may also want to tie you into using one brand of memory, so remember that you are the
customer and you have the right to negotiate the terms and conditions of your service contract.
Remind your service provider that you are paying for your service contract, and that you want support of Kingston.
If your provider refuses to support your request, you may want to consider changing to a more flexible service provider
that won’t tie you into buying one brand.
No one, not even the OEMs, can force (tie) you in to buying components that you don’t want, especially when the tied
purchase can cost you up to three times the cost of equivalent Kingston memory.
Can Kingston help me obtain support from my service provider?
Absolutely! We have already signed formal service agreements with some popular resellers and service providers. So check
with your service provider to determine if they already support Kingston.
If they don’t yet support Kingston products, we can offer service reimbursement schemes to you or any service provider that
you choose to work with.
What other benefits can I get from Kingston?
Cost savings: Kingston can be priced up to 50% below the OEM memory, sometimes even more. Some of our largest corporate
customers are currently saving millions of pounds per year by using Kingston memory on their servers and workstations,
while having a reliable solution.
On-Site Spares: Corporate end-users with a large installed base of systems can obtain free on-site spares to eliminate any
potential downtime.
Service Reimbursement: In the unlikely event you experience a failure, Kingston can reimburse you, or your service provider,
for costs incurred from replacing Kingston memory. Kingston will also help customise a service reimbursement programme for you, or
your service provider, completely free of charge.
