Kingston: Making the world a little greener
Kingston® is doing its part to be a responsible environmental steward by creating and implementing environmental programs that have led
us to become ISO 14001:2004 certified by an external registrar.
These programs include, but are not limited to:
- EU RoHS compliance - our products are lead-free, and five other substances that have been banned by the EU have been eliminated from our products.
- China RoHS compliance - in addition to the above, our products meet requirements set out regarding product life.
- EU WEEE compliance - our products and packaging are recycled according to these guidelines.
- Storm Water Prevention - a program that protects waterways and oceans from pollutants from our processes.
In addition, Kingston strives to reduce the hazardous chemicals used in our processes in an ongoing effort to improve the environment.
- Recycling programs (through certified recyclers)
- The waste generated in our manufacturing process, including the passive components, DRAM, PCB boards, plastics and
cardboard, is recycled.
- Kingston is an e-waste recycler. Our computers, monitors, mobile phones and other electronic devices are recycled.
- Kingston also recycles universal waste, including batteries, fluorescent lights and paint.

ISO 9001
Quality Management System
The Kingston Technology Headquarters in the United States has been continuously ISO 9001 certified
since its first assessment attempt in 1994. In June of 2003, Kingston and its sister company Payton
Technology underwent re-certification of their shared quality management system to the ISO 9001:2000
standard, again passing on their first attempt.
ISO 9000 originated in Europe in response to the growing market need for a set of standardized
guidelines for quality management and quality assurance. It is currently adopted in over 90 countries
and is applicable to a wide selection of industries. Its certification is used as a means to identify
companies that visibly focus and commit to ensuring the best possible products and services to their
customers. It is a completely voluntary certification that is achieved only through a rigorous
registration audit and regular external surveillance audits by third party ISO assessors.
Kingston undergoes regular audits by third party ISO assessors, customers, suppliers, and its own
employees. The results of these audits are utilized to improve and strengthen our quality management
system.
Other strictly regulated ISO-registered Kingston facilities include the United Kingdom (ISO 9001),
Taiwan (ISO 9001, 14001), Malaysia (ISO 9001), and China (ISO 9001). ISO 9000 certification is a
worldwide recognition of Kingston's consistent and superior quality in customer service, as well
as an assurance of high quality products that include memory enhancements and data storage products.

ISO 14001
Environmental Management System
In response to the growing need to identify and reduce the impact our products and services have
on the environment, Kingston's management team has committed to the investment and implementation
of Environmental Management Systems for each of our worldwide manufacturing sites. These systems
are modeled to be in compliance with the ISO 14001 standard, which assists companies in the creation
and maintenance of an Environmental Management System.
Certification to the ISO 14001 standard demonstrates Kingston's commitment to proactively addressing
our impact on the global environment.
ISO 14001 is the internationally recognized standard for Environmental Management Systems. The ISO
14001 standard seeks to synchronize valuable environmental principles and practices with a goal of
helping companies determine the environmental issues associated with their activities, and to manage
them successfully. While the standard does not contain specific performance requirements, it does
include requirements for commitment to the prevention of pollution, as well as compliance with
regulatory requirements. More importantly, it recognizes a companys positive impact on the
environment, achieved through managed performance and continual improvement.

OHSAS 18001
Kingston is dedicated to providing a healthy and safe work environment for employees, contractors and
visitors worldwide. Kingston adheres to all applicable local, state, and federal regulatory requirements
related to OHSAS 18001.
OHSAS 18001 is the Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series for health and safety management
systems. It is intended to help an organization control occupational health and safety risks. It was
developed in a cooperative manner by leading international standards organizations in response to widespread
demand for a recognized standard against which to be certified and assessed. While the standard does not
contain specific performance requirements, it does include requirements for commitment to the management of
hazards and risks, as well as compliance with regulatory requirements.
Kingston implemented a variety of programs and processes, among these are ergonomics, machine guarding,
lockout/blockout, and the use of personal protective equipment to achieve greater protection and to prevent
occupational injury and illness of employees, contractors and visitors. All employees are committed to
identifying and reporting safety concerns and are involved in implementing solutions for any potential hazard.

RoHS/WEEE
RoHS Directive (2002/95/EC)
The Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS) Directive was passed into law by the European Union (E.U.).
It affects manufacturers, sellers, distributors and recyclers of electrical and electronic equipment containing lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent
chrome, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE). From July 1, 2006 the use of these materials has been severely
restricted in most electrical and electronic products sold in Europe.
In 2003, Kingston began the process of converting all of its products to be built in compliance with the RoHS Directive. Qualification of RoHS-compliant
components supplied by our vendors and the implementation of new manufacturing processes related to this Directive was undertaken in 2004 and 2005.
All of Kingston's products and packaging materials sold to Europe became fully RoHS-compliant on July 1, 2006. Occasionally, in order to meet
special requests from customers, we may supply certain legacy products for which RoHS-compliant components are unavailable from our suppliers for use
in older equipment. For other regions, Kingston will ship the RoHS compliant memory and Flash products upon request. A Declaration of RoHS Compliance
can also be provided. If you have questions regarding the RoHS compliance of our products, please contact your distributor or reseller.
WEEE Directive (2002/96/EC)
The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE) applies to companies that manufacture, sell, and distribute electrical and electronic
equipment in the E.U. It covers a wide range of large and small household appliances, IT equipment, radio and audio equipment, electrical tools,
telecommunications equipment, electrical toys, etc.
The Directive aims to reduce the waste arising from electrical and electronic equipment, and improve the environmental performance of everything involved
in the life cycle of electrical and electronic equipment. This is translated into the following requirements:
- Producers (manufacturers or importers) of electrical and electronic equipment will be required to register in their countries.
- Private households will be able to return their WEEE to collection facilities free of charge and producers will be responsible for financing these facilities.
- Producers will be required to achieve a series of demanding recycling and recovery targets.
- Producers will be required to mark their products with the crossed out wheeled bin. This symbol indicates that the equipment carrying this mark must
NOT be thrown into general waste but should be collected separately and properly processed under local regulations.
The WEEE directive has been transposed into each EU member states legislation and so the exact timing and details will vary slightly from country to
country, but the above principles will apply. In particular, the arrangements for the separate collection of WEEE will vary in each country but might
include for example: public collection points, retailers take back schemes, collection from households, etc. The Directive encourages reuse, recycling
and other forms of recovery in order to prevent WEEE. Users of electrical and electronic equipment in the E.U. can therefore play an important role in
reducing WEEE and helping the environment by separating out WEEE and disposing of it properly. Consumers can ask the supplier from whom they purchased
the Electronic & Electrical equipment from about local arrangements for the disposal of WEEE.
Business users are advised to ensure that WEEE, which is not suitable for reuse or recycling, be disposed of properly via approved authorised treatment
facilities. The Producer in your country may be able to assist you.
In the UK, The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2006 (S.I. No. 3289) were laid before parliament in December 2006. Kingston Technology
Europe Limited has registered with a UK compliance scheme in order to discharge its obligations as a producer in the UK which arises as a result of its
importing EEE products into the UK. Kingston's UK EEE producer registration number is WEE/ED0057TS. However, please be aware that Kingston's UK EEE producer
registration will only provide compliance for EEE products purchased via Kingston Technology Europe Limited in the UK and which remain in the UK. Any person
who is responsible for importing any Kingston products into any EU member state (or other country) will have to ensure that they comply with any WEEE or other
laws applicable in their country.
Kingston is dedicated to minimizing the impact our products have on the environment and to comply with the WEEE Directive.
Information for operators of treatment facilities
In general reuse & recycling of EEE is preferable to disposal. If disposal is necessary then this should only be undertaken by an approved authorised treatment
facility (AATF). Any AATF in Europe requiring further information on Kingstons products are advised to contact the Compliance Officer at Kingston Technology
Europe Limited
ROHS in China
China RoHS is a two-step process; the first step identifies and complies with established concentration limits of certain hazardous substances
in electronic information products that are sold into China. Per the deadline set by the Chinese government, March 1, 2007, Kingston implemented
step one of the requirement. Kingston modules that are sold into the China market have the required marking on the product designating that
the product meets the China RoHS requirements. Products that comply with the established maximum concentration limits of the RoHS substances
are marked with the e-logo shown to the right.
The second step involves a testing obligation which is currently under development by the Chinese government. Products imported into China must
have a testing report from a China “approved” lab. Kingston will be ready to fully comply with this requirement once it has been finalized.

GHG Statement
Kingston Technology has undertaken an emissions audit by an outside firm on the amount of carbon dioxide being generated at the Orange County facility. The results of the audit indicate that most of our GHG emissions are indirect emissions from purchased electricity (99.165%), with the balance (.8375%) in direct emissions from company vehicle usage and production. Calculations were determined using the IPCC methodology and the USEPA methodology. The data reflects the period 1/1/08 to 12/31/08 for all facilities reported here.
In the calendar year 2009, Kingston will work to improve the data and scope of the information.
Environmental considerations are set to become an integral part of the professional conduct, practice and ethical considerations
that Kingston Technology professionals will bring to this organization.

The results of the audit indicate that the GHG emissions are primarily indirect emissions from purchased electricity. Calculations do not include direct emissions from production as these could only be estimated at this time.

PFOS Compliance Statement
Declaration of Conformity - PFOS Restriction for Environment Protection
Kingston Technology does not use Perfluorooctyl Sulfonates (PFOS) in any of its manufacturing processes.
A limited number of wafer fabrication operations of Kingston’s die component suppliers use PFOS in some critical applications in the photoresist coatings of their photolithography process of wafer manufacturing. However, such uses are within the exemptions provided for photolithography processing in accordance to EU Directive 2006/122/ECOF restricting the use of PFOS.
Based on the supporting data provided by Kingston’s suppliers, our understanding is that PFOS does not remain in the product of any manufactured die components supplied to us, and PFOS is not contained in any Kingston product.
