General Intel Xeon E5-2600 / v2 (Romley) Information

The Intel® “Romley” platform, introduced with the Xeon® E5-2600 (“Sandy Bridge-EP”) and later refreshed with the Xeon E5-2600 v2 (“Ivy Bridge-EP”) product families, provides a greater numbers of cores, doubles the total server memory capacity over the Xeon 5500/5600 series servers, enhances memory performance through higher DDR3 speeds and delivers higher memory bandwidth with a Quad Channel memory architecture, all while significantly improving energy efficiency.

Supported memory types and operating speeds will vary by server platforms, processor model used and number of sockets populated per channel.

To benefit from low-power DDR3L, all populated DIMMs must be 1.35V. When mixing any 1.5V and 1.35V modules, the memory will default to 1.5V.

Memory types (ECC UDIMM, RDIMM, LRDIMM) cannot be mixed within a server.

Modules must be installed in identical groups according to server memory architecture (four for Quad Channel) to achieve highest available bandwidth. Incomplete sets or modules of varying capacity/build may toggle the bandwidth to Dual or Single channel operation.
