General Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 / v4 (Grantley) Information

The Intel® “Grantley” EP platform provides a significant boost over previous generations in server performance with more cores, higher memory capacity and support for DDR4 memory technology. Grantley debuted with the Xeon® E5-2600 v3, known as Haswell-EP, and was then refreshed with the Xeon® E5-2600 v4, known as Broadwell-EP, adding cores, increased supported memory speed and higher capacity modules.

Xeon E5-2600 v3 series (Haswell-EP)
  • Support a maximum 1.5 Terabytes (TB) of memory with twenty-four 64GB LRDIMM memory modules in two processor (2P) configurations, or 3 TB with forty-eight 64 LRDIMMs in four processor (4P) configurations

  • Support DDR4 Registered and Load Reduced DIMMs up to 2133 MT/s, equivalent to transfer rates of 17 GB/s per module

Xeon E5-2600 v4 series (Broadwell-EP)
  • Support a maximum 3 TB of memory with twenty-four 128GB 3DS LRDIMM memory modules in two processor (2P) configurations, or 6 TB with forty-eight 128GB 3DS LRDIMMs in four processor (4P) configurations

  • Support DDR4 Registered, Load Reduced, and 3DS Load Reduced DIMMs up to 2400 MT/s, equivalent to transfer rates of 19.2 GB/s per module.

Memory Architecture

Memory architecture remains Quad Channel from the previous generation (Romley). Each processor can be configured with 4, 8 or 12 memory modules, depending on the motherboard layout.

Supported memory types and operating speeds will vary by server platforms, processor model used, and number of sockets populated per channel.

3DS LRDIMMs may operate at slower speeds than standard RDIMM and LRDIMM.
