Kingston Technology Implements JDS Uniphase Optical Technology For Anti-Counterfeit Protection of Memory Modules
Flex Products' Innovative SecureShift® Labeling to be Used In Creation of New Global Security Procedure for Kingston Memory Products
Fountain Valley, CA - (May 1, 2004), -- Kingston® Technology Company,
Inc., announced today that it has selected Flex Products, a JDS Uniphase company (NASDAQ:JDSU), for
its patented SecureShift® light interference technology to be used in the deployment
of Kingston's new anti-counterfeiting labeling process. Kingston® will first introduce
SecureShift labels on memory modules produced in China; with all Kingston manufacturing facilities
worldwide using the sophisticated labeling system by mid-2004.
With counterfeiting on the rise, Kingston is taking the necessary steps to protect customers. Similar
to the anti-counterfeiting technology used in major currencies, the new SecureShift label will provide
a unique color-shifting optical effect that allows for easy verification of authenticity. To deter
counterfeiting, each Kingston memory module will soon have a "rose to green" color-shifting label that
will let customers quickly identify genuine Kingston product.
"Counterfeiting is costing brand owners billions of dollars globally by seriously devaluing brand
image," said Scott Chen, vice president, APAC business development, Kingston. "As the leader in the
memory industry, Kingston is taking the initiative by proactively introducing the SecureShift
technology to protect our brands against counterfeiting and ensure our customers of genuine Kingston
quality," added Chen.
Identifying Genuine Kingston Product
The new SecureShift labels will provide an instant and easy method to identify genuine Kingston
memory modules. To check a Kingston memory product, find the Kingston "rose to green" color-shift
label on the module and verify that the color changes from rose to green when the module is moved
back and forth at an angle. The color change on the label from rose to green ensures the module is
genuine Kingston product.
