Go Green with Kingston - Save the PCB, Save the World
With Less Consumption of PCB Board, Kingston’s Low Profile Modules Are the Choices for Greeners
Hsinchu, Taiwan – (August 19, 2008) –"Less is better" has become a common sense of the global citizens. Some of them are
practicing LOHAS life style and some are going green by reducing the consumption of carbon dioxide. The green consciousness has been raised these days, due
to the changes in the environment. Kingston Technology Company, Inc., the independent world leader in memory products, today announced the launch of the
low profile modules for the commitment to the society.
"The new low profile modules are more efficient than their predecessors. Smaller modules use fewer materials, which is better for the environment." said
Ann Bai, Product Manager, DRAM Memory, APAC Region, Kingston. "The disposal of PCB can cause environmental hazard. Kingston is proud to introduce the new
modules to the market and hopes this small step could help to make our world better," added Bai.
Advances in technology have resulted in smaller chips and smaller computer systems. Kingston was motivated to stay ahead of technology by developing smaller modules.
The new low profile modules function exactly the same way, which is absolutely great news for the end users who can benefit from smaller systems and lower heat
diffusivity. These modules follow JEDEC standard with less consumption of PCB board, about 40% less in height compared to the modules we see today.
Kingston begins phasing in new Very Low Profile (VLP) DIMMs for unbuffered DDR2 Desktop memory SKUs for ValueRAM and eventually the System Specific memory. Some of
the best selling modules, such as ValueRAM DDR2-800 and DDR2-667, have adapted to the new VLP standard. The VLP stands 0.72" (18.3mm) high compared to the
standard PCB height of 1.18" (30mm). The two designs are functionally equivalent and have the same electrical characteristic and interface. Kingston is
committed to reducing industrial waste and providing greeners more eco-friendly products for the environment.
