Kingston Production Facility in China Opens on Schedule
New Facility to Better Support Growing Market as Kingston Worldwide Unit Volume Increases
Fountain Valley, Calif., September 8, 2005 – Kingston® Technology Company, Inc., the world's
largest independent memory module manufacturer, today announced that the most recent addition to its manufacturing subsidiaries, Kingston
Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., is opening on time and within budget in China. This expansion increases Kingston's China operations from
producing 1.5 million memory modules to five million modules per month.
"Kingston is investing in the tremendous opportunity that exists in China," said Mike Chen, vice president, operations, Kingston. "Our
worldwide unit sales have increased dramatically since 2000 and in establishing a larger manufacturing facility in Shanghai, our strategy is
two-fold: we enhance our ability to supply our worldwide customers with quality products at competitive prices while also creating a strategic
presence directly in the region, ready to support the local market as it develops," added Chen. Additional global growth is planned: Kingston
facilities in the United States and Taiwan will be expanding; manufacturing will continue in Malaysia.
Equipped with the most advanced SMT assembly lines and superior testing equipment, the new Kingston Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. facility is
located in Shanghai's Pudong ‘Silicon Harbor,' China's bustling center for high-tech business operations. Kingston relocated from its original
50k square foot plant to the nearby facility which is approximately 250k square feet and includes an option for an additional 150K square feet
available for future expansion. Construction of the new plant began in January 2004
Kingston's significant growth rate over the past several years prompted the need for additional capacity in growing markets. The surge in the
ValueRAMä product line, targeted at the white-box market, has been a driving force behind Kingston's increase in module demand. Like many
global high-tech companies, Kingston realized the opportunity in supporting China's growing market and began cultivating production capabilities
to support future memory product demand.
