KINGSTON SUPPORTS US TROOPS WITH 100-PERCENT PRIVATE USB FLASH DRIVES
Kingston Donates Drives to Military Personnel Stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan

Fountain Valley, CA -- (June 1, 2006), Kingston Technology Company, Inc. today announced that it is donating 5,000 Kingston® DataTraveler® Elite – Privacy Edition (DTE Privacy Edition) USB drives to U.S. troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The donation is being made through Operation Gratitude (www.operationgratitude.com), an Encino, Calif.,-based nonprofit organization that sends care packages to military personnel deployed around the world. To date, Operation Gratitude has shipped more than 145,000 packages addressed to individual U.S. troops in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kosovo, Korea, Africa, Kuwait, Bahrain, the UAE, Guantanamo Bay, as well as U.S. ships deployed abroad.

“Kingston is committed to supporting the men and women of our armed forces and is pleased to partner with Operation Gratitude in support of their efforts,” said John Tu, co founder and president, Kingston.

Kingston DTEP: Meeting the Needs of the US Military
Recently, several major media outlets have reported on the issue of unsecured data on U.S. military USB flash drives that have turned up for sale outside a large military installation in Bagram, Afghanistan. Kingston believes DTE Privacy Edition drives offer an innovative yet cost-effective solution to prevent the occurrence of these types of scenarios.

Introduced in March 2006, DTE Privacy Edition is the world’s first USB Flash drive that secures 100 percent of data on-the-fly via 128-bit hardware-based AES encryption, ensuring fail-safe security best practices. The drive is ideal for use by military and government personnel dealing with sensitive information; if the drive is ever lost or stolen, data on the DTE Privacy Edition device remains secure.

In addition to hardware-based encryption, the drive features several other advanced security measures, including a complex password protocol and a mechanism that locks out would-be attackers after 25 consecutive failed password attempts, ensuring information is accessible only by authorized users, and thwarting even “brute force attack” attempts to access data on lost or stolen devices.

“Of all the various USB drives Kingston offers, the DTE Privacy Edition drives were selected due to the sensitive nature of the data inherent in military operations,” said John Holland, vice president, domestic sales, Kingston. “With Kingston’s DTE Privacy Edition, U.S. military personnel need not worry about the inadvertent disclosure of sensitive information – whether it’s government documents or love letters from home,” said Holland. “Kingston DTE Privacy Edition drives are rugged and can withstand weather extremes – from 32 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. They are an ideal solution for military personnel working abroad that need secure, compact and rugged mobile storage devices.”

Slightly larger than a five-stick pack of chewing gum, the DTE Privacy Edition drive offers superior performance --with read and write speeds of up to 24 MB/second and 14 MB/second -- and is available in storage capacities up to 4 GB. The drive is backed by a five-year warranty and legendary Kingston reliability, service and support.
