Kingston Technology Crowned Winner of The Times Leadership Challenge 2007
16 October 2007: Kingston Technology Europe Ltd., the independent world leader in memory products, today announced that a team of
its employees had triumphed in this year’s Times Leadership Challenge after they took part in the competition finals in Malawi last week.
The Times Leadership Challenge is an annual competition that invites companies to send their potential future leaders to compete against their
peers, learning valuable leadership lessons on the way. The team from Kingston Technology battled it out through the knockout competition stage
earlier this year, facing three other teams in a one-day event that tested their mental and emotional capabilities in a number of different tasks.
The team successfully progressed to the semi-finals in September and secured a place on the five-day final in Malawi that took place last week.
The final involved each of the shortlisted teams (BDO Stoy Hayward, Deloitte, the London and Quadrant Group, and Kingston Technology) working on
a development project with a remote community around the Majete Game Reserve and in Salima, near to Lake Malawi. The tasks included building a
new school block for children at a local primary school as well as helping to improve the literacy and numeracy skills of the pupils, working with
staff at the Majete Game Reserve on wildlife conservation, and also working at an orphanage in Salima.
“We are extremely proud of our team winning this prestigious competition – they all worked exceptionally hard but enjoyed themselves immensely working
on this worthwhile project in Malawi,” said Thomas Marschner, Vice President of Sales & Marketing EMEA, Kingston Technology Europe. “The Times
Leadership Challenge not only provides participants with valuable practical skills but also gives them a real sense of how these leadership skills
can be applied to their working lives – learning hands-on not just through theory.”
The Kingston Technology team will attend the Leadership Challenge Charity Ball in London in November to be presented with their trophy and updated
on progress made with the Malawi community project. The Kingston Technology team members are: Leigh Harper, Daniel Hermann, Tony Hollingsbee,
Genevieve Kaye, Jonathan Man, Paul Man, Gerald Masters, and Jim Selby.
