Kingston Technology Celebrates 20 Years of Memory
Founders John Tu and David Sun Mark Two Decades in Tumultuous Industry

17 October 2007: Kingston Technology Company, Inc., the independent world leader in memory products, today announced it is celebrating 20 years in business. Founded on this date in 1987 with a single memory solution to an industry shortage, Kingston® now sells over 2,000 memory products and reached record company revenues of US$3.7 billion in 2006.

Kingston co-founder, John Tu says: “20 years ago, David and I went through a catastrophic financial disaster and out of this dark time, Kingston was born. Neither of us could envision what Kingston would be 20 years later. We still feel we have that ‘start-up’ spirit today. David and I think this company is unique. I can only attribute this to all the dedicated employees who work here at Kingston.”

Fellow co-founder, David Sun comments: “Kingston has grown and succeeded as a result of the efforts of our employees, vendors, and customers who together have made this company what it is today. These partnerships have seen us through good times and tough markets and the relationships we have developed over the past 20 years will endure for decades to come.”

Kingston Technology first introduced alternative Single In-Line Memory Module (SIMM) in 1987. In 1999, the company diversified its product range and introduced ValueRAM® memory for white box system builders, which in 2002 was followed by the launch of the HyperX® line of high-speed memory for gamers and PC enthusiasts.

In 2003 Kingston Technology expanded further when pushing into the Flash Memory market. Among the products introduced were CompactFlash®, Secure Digital™ and MMC cards.

In terms of revenue, Kingston Technology Inc. reached the $1 billion milestone in 1995 with revenues of $1.3B. In 2006 Kingston Technology reached a record-breaking $3.7B in revenues.

Kingston Technology now employs more than 4,000 people worldwide and ships its products to 3,000 locations in over 100 countries across the globe.
