Windows states the reader is installed properly, but a drive letter (or letters) is not being assigned for the reader. There are mapped network drives on this computer. How do I resolve this?
Windows assigns new drive letters to the next available physical drive. It will sometimes take the same drive letter as a network drive for this reason. This is a common problem with removable storage devices. Please use the following procedure to resolve this problem.
- With the reader plugged into a USB port, right-click on “Computer” (or “My Computer”) located on your desktop or under the Start menu on the Task Bar and select “Manage”.
- Select Disk Management on the left window pane.
- Locate the reader on the right window pane.
- Right-click on the drive and select “Change Drive Letter and Paths” and assign it a new drive letter that is not being used by a mapped network drive.
- Go back to “Computer” and open it to see if the reader is assigned the drive letter you chose.

When I insert the reader into the USB port on my keyboard, monitor, USB hub or in the front of my tower, the unit is either not recognized or I receive an error message. Why?
This is due to a power limitation. Though some USB devices may work fine in these USB ports, USB 2.0 High Speed devices usually require more power. In order to resolve this issue, you will need to insert the reader directly into one of the main USB ports. These USB ports are usually located in the back of the tower.

ReadyBoost is a Windows Vista feature which has the ability to utilize USB flash drive storage space to improve system performance. DataTraveler Micro Reader does not support Windows ReadyBoost.
