Do I have to apply this firmware update?
Kingston strongly recommends that customers apply the firmware update.
Even though the issue has affected a small percentage of drives in the market, it can result in drive failure and possible data loss in those cases.

I get a "bad command or missing interpreter" error when I boot from the firmware disk. How do I resolve this?
If your CD/DVD drive is external, the firmware update will not work with some external CD/DVD drives.
The solution is to use either a different external CD/DVD drive or update the SSD in a computer with an internal CD/DVD drive.
If you are using an internal CD/DVD drive and get this error, try changing all the SATA ports in the BIOS to IDE compatibility mode, not just the port to which the SSD is connected.

When I try to run the firmware update with my internal SATA II DVD/Blu-Ray drive, I get an "Enter the full shell command line" error. Why?
This may be because you are using a combo drive that includes Blu-Ray.
Try using an older drive that is CD-ROM/DVD only.

When I try to update the firmware for my SSD, I get an error stating the update failed. How do I resolve this?
Make sure you are using the correct firmware update file. You will need to use a different file depending on what firmware version you already have. The firmware version is printed on the label on the drive. But if you performed a previous update, the label may not be correct. If you use the wrong firmware, the updating utility will display your current firmware version when you run it.
