FSS Notification Registration

Kingston Technology Company, Inc. and its affiliates (“Kingston”) hereby publish the following information regarding Kingston’s SSD and USB products in accordance with the notification requirements stipulated in item 12 of Annex № 4 to the Statute “On importation and exportation of encryption (cryptographic) items implemented in the customs territory of the Eurasian Economic Union:”

  1. Kingston confirms that its SSD and USB products will be publicly available for sale to the public in accordance with the laws of the member states of the Customs Union, without any restrictions, from stock at retail selling points in retail outlets by means of any of the following:
    • Over-the-counter transactions;
    • Mail order transactions;
    • Electronic transactions;
    • Telephone call transactions.
  2. Kingston confirms that the encryption (cryptographic) functionality of its SSD and USB products cannot be changed by the user since this functionality is defined within the internal software (firmware) of a built-in microcontroller. The user is not able to change the cryptographic functions within the internal software, because the firmware is stored in the products in the form of machine code, which is not subject to any amendment. The source code, which is necessary for compiling (generating) the internal software, is not provided to the user under any circumstances. Creation of its own code requires special skills and knowledge of the hardware architecture of these products, which is confidential information and not accessible to users. The user can only update the internal software of the SSD products with the help of official distribution kits from the manufacturer/supplier, which does not result in a change in the cryptographic characteristics of the products. The USB products are not supported through distribution kits provided by the manufacturer/supplier. The application (secondary) software that is shipped on USB products does not affect the encryption (cryptographic) functionality of the USB products. User guides are provided to users on how to use the application software but do not affect the encryption (cryptographic) functionality of the USB products.
  3. Kingston confirms that its SSD and USB products are designed for installation by the user without further substantial support from the manufacturer/supplier. After purchasing these products, the user can independently connect them to his or her work equipment without needing to contact any specialists. Further use of the SSD and USB products does not require any special maintenance or support from the manufacturer/supplier. Communication between the buyer and the manufacturer/supplier is only for purposes of addressing errors or replacing defective products;
  4. When necessary, details of Kingston’s SSD and USB products are accessible and will be provided, upon request, to the appropriate authority in the exporter’s country in order to ascertain compliance with conditions described in item 12 of Annex № 4 to the Statute “On importation and exportation of encryption (cryptographic) items implemented in the customs territory of the Eurasian Economic Union.”

Kingston’s SSD products contain cryptographic items that use the XTS-AES encryption algorithm, which complies with the AES standard. USB products use the XTS-AES encryption algorithm with the RSA algorithm. The SSDs and USBs do not use any other cryptographic protocols.
