What is the difference between desktop and server memory?

Can I mix different types of server memory?

• Different memory types (UDIMM, RDIMM, LRDIMM, MRDIMM): Cannot be mixed in the same system. If mixed, the server may not boot.
• Different generations (DDR4 vs DDR5): DDR4 and DDR5 modules are not socket compatible so cannot be mixed. They feature different module keys, preventing them from being physically installed in the wrong generation system. For DDR5, UDIMMs are not socket compatible with RDIMMs and MRDIMMs.
